R&R Fire Services operates Little Red Hen LLC from Bozeman and currently operates under the name of R&R fire while utilizing Little Red Hen (LRH) equipment.  After the 2005 fire season R&R made a decision to dedicate its time and resources toward developing higher quality and more effective weed wash stations.  While doing research on noxious weed washing a relationship wash formed with LRH, then operated by Quincy Orhai.  It has been a good working relationship since.  We share the same values and desire to see the industry meet the need of the west.

Currently there are only a few prevention methods to prevent the spread of noxious weeds and washing of vehicles is at the top of the list.  Please check our Downloads section for research that R&R has been working on with LRH for the last several years.

R&R Fire Services operates these Weed Containment Units on fires and other incidents ranging from natural disasters to environmentally sensitive projects, especially were herbicides are prohibited.  The LRH desing of Weed Containment Units (WCU) are very versatile and rugged, in the spring of 2007 R&R had the chance to prove how versatile the system was on a verity of military equipment while working on research with the DOD and MSU.  The system was able to handle every thing from Humvee's to M1 Abrams Tanks that can weigh 70 Tons when fully loaded.  Also the vehicle varied from standard wheel width to over 12 and 1/2 wide on the tanks.  With a few miner adjustments that only took a couple of minutes we were able to wash the next size of vehicles.  The ramps proved to durable and very versatile and made the job a success.

We are currently striving to build even better weed containment wash units from the data that we have gathered over the years on wildland incidents and on the scientific research projects.  If you are interested in weed wash units please contact us.

Noxious weeds are plant species that have been designated by state or national agricultural authorities as plants that are injurious to agricultural and/or horticultural crops and/or humans and livestock. Most have been introduced into a foreign ecosystem either by accident or mismanagement, but some are also native species. Typically they are plants that are aggressive growing which multiply quickly and adversely affect desirable plants or are somehow injurious to livestock or humans either by contact or when ingested. They are a large problem in many parts of the world, greatly affecting areas of agriculture, forest management and other open lands.

Preventing the establishment of invasive species is always the best method of control. Stopping harmful species at this stage can be difficult. Many governments try to limit the entry of invasive species into their lands with thorough inspections of international shipments, customs checks, and proper quarantine regulations. The creation of a list of safe and potentially harmful species can be helpful in regulation. The general public can also participate in invasive species prevention by educating themselves about invasive species and by making informed decisions.

Little Red Hen is owned and operated by DES.
